The first
official country we shall be visiting in Africa is Morocco.
This culture filled
country has everything for the adventure traveler, from colorful
spice markets to hot sandy beaches, a whole wonderful array of
different places to visit or mountains to climb.
Starting from the
North, Tangier, we will slowly zigzag our way down through Morocco
taking in all the flavours of this wonderful kingdom.
Camping wild in
Morocco is permitted providing we have the permission of the land
owner, this is not normally too hard to obtain, and even if it
wasn't strictly obtained, we should be able to get away with it.
I'm sure 'someone' will find us, you should come to expect this,
it probably won't matter where we camp, what you might think is
the middle of nowhere with no one around, you soon find a circle
of locals chatting to you around the camp fire, sharing your food!
There are also
plenty of cheap, safe, camp sites to stay along the way, you'll
appreciate these more after a few nights camping out, if only for
their toilet and shower facilities. They are usually a good base
enabling everyone to explore the local towns that the other trips
pass by.
Places we could
visit include Fes,
Rabat, Casablanca,
Khouribga, Beni Mellal,
Marrakesh, Safi, Agadir and El-Aioun before heading off south
following the coast line to Mauritania. This is probably the
safest and only feasible route for us due to unrest in neighboring
Algeria. If however by the time we actually set off on our trip
Algeria becomes safe again, I'm sure we could visit there, as
while most of Algeria is barren, there are plenty of interesting
things to experience there.
Our
next country to visit can only be either Algeria
or Mauritania
as Morocco only borders these two countries. The choice will be
down to the members of the trip, or if they can not decide, then
it will be put to the public vote via the web site.
